AvionicsUpgrading from the old Tube radio with separate intercom and the large transponder.

BrakesRemoved Cleveland Mechanical Drum Brakes due to cracking of the backer plate, replaced with Cleveland Hydraulic brakes.

BreakersI removed the original large breakers and replaced with new breakers and an avionics buss bar and switch

BulkheadDue to many cracks in mounting brackets and the oblong of the jack strut mounting points the bulkhead needed replacing.

Control CablesRemoved and replaced all of the original control cables with McFarlane custom cables. Terrific cables and customer service.

ControlsAll of the pedals, supports, and stick controls were removed and refurbished. New tight tolerance bushings were used to replace those in the control stick pivots.

Elevator and Horizontal StabilizerThe entire Horizontal Stabilizer required replacement due to a non original skin replacement. At the same time the trim cables and the elevator hinges were replaced.

EngineThe old engine had sat for many years with old auto gas in it. It was removed and overhauled by Don Sword. The engine was upgraded with an O-200 conversion, lightweight starter/alternator, oil filter and new ignition system. The Stromberg carburetor was also overhauled.

ExhaustThe Hanlon Wilson heat exchangers were worn with cracks, they were sent off to Dawley Aviation and came back brand new.

FirewallCleaning up and restoring the firewall

Forward Horizontal Stab MountThe case original forward mount had major cracking and I replaced it with the steel version.

Fuel SystemComplete replacement of the fuel system, including upgrading to the new Allen Fuel Valve with flexible shaft selector. Changed out original gascolator with the Steve's Aircraft version of all aluminum one.

Gear BoxRemoved the upper gear arms to inspect and repair the bent bolts and pins. Replaced the right hand pivot components.

Instrument PanelRemoved all old repairs and equipment and replaced with new. Made new glove box and doors.
|
Instrument Sub PanelThe original Sub Panel was badly cracked and damaged. A backer/doubler was made to strengthen the sub panel . The original shock mount system was fabricated to ensure originality. Replacement instrument lamps were also installed.

InteriorRepainted all of the interior wood pieces, had lots of help cleaning off the aluminum point and corrosion. Made new seats and had them covered. Also a new sky light.

Jack Strut Hole RepairsThe holes in the skin where the jack struts exit the fuselage on both sides were badly cracked and torn and in need of a stressed skin repair. Each side had a poor cosmetic only patch over them.

Main GearAfter a brief look over by a friend he points out, you know one of the main gear is cracked? No weep holes had been drilled and one leg had developed a crack. Decided to replace both.

Motor MountSent off old motor mount to be overhauled, bought all new rubber mounts.
|
Electric Pre-HeaterA simple Preheater from the hardware store, with a stove pipe piece and some dryer hose. The heater did require a taking apart to insert a square to round blank.

Pulleys and CablesReplaced all the control cables with new pre made as well as all the pulleys with Ball Bearing new ones.
|
Rear Vertical Stabilizer MountThe Rear mount was poorly welded and not in good shape, it had to go .

Seat PanAfter being removed for the replacement of the bulkhead underneath the seat pan was also refurbished. Same goes for the luggage tray.

Shoulder HarnessesRemoved the non regulation hard mounted harnesses and replaced with the BAS Model Specific retractable versions.

Tail Cone TrayWhile replacing the Horizontal Stabilizer forward mount, the tail tray was discovered to be in poor condition. The hole had been torn and the rear tabs broken off.

Tail wheel and BracketA strange steel saddle was removed leaving the tail bracket compromised. The tail spring not the correct spring. Scott Tailwheel was worn and not locking. All was replaced.
